Biography

Yong Zhao, Ph.D. | Thought leader and scholar, educational expert and award-winning author of 20 books including "World Class Learners" and "Catching Up or Leading The Way.” Named one of the 10 most influential people in educational technology. 

Dr. Yong Zhao’s works focus on the implications of globalization and technology on education. He has designed schools that cultivate global competence, developed computer games for language learning, and founded research and development institutions to explore innovative education models.  Speaking around the world on educational issues, Dr. Zhao is a thought leader on globalization and education, creativity, global competitiveness, educational reforms, and educational technology. Born in China’s Sichuan Province, Dr. Zhao received his B.A. in English Language Education from Sichuan Institute of Foreign Languages in China and got his Ph.D. at University of Illinois in the U.S.  He was founding director of the Center for Teaching and Technology and ED of the Conficius Institute and US-China Center for Research on Educational Excellence.  He currently serves as the Presidential Chair and Director of the Institute for Global and Online Education in the College of Education, University of Oregon, where he is also a Professor in the Department of Educational Measurement, Policy, and Leadership.
