“Entrepreneur is a loaded word and an intimidating concept but it’s actually very simple – just do the work. Being an entrepreneur is taking an idea and showing up everyday and using common sense to make it a reality.” This is clear and practical advice from a pioneer currently in the entrepreneurial trenches – Danae Ringelman, Co-founder of Indiegogo. Danae was one of three amazing business leaders sharing her start-up story with the Speak to Me audience October 15th. Alison Pincus, Co-founder of One Kings Lane and Jory Des Jardins, Co-founder of BlogHer shared the stage and had encouraging tips and insights to those in the audience hoping to start their own business.
While each panelist created their successes uniquely, there were some common threads among them. First, entrepreneurship was driven in large part for all three by the desire to be their own boss. They were after a “lifestyle” and so the end dictated the means. As women strive to find an answer for the complicated work-life balance, there may be more and more of us taking on the challenge of starting our own business in order to give us the flexibility modern life demands.
